Avinash Kumar

Avinash Kumar is an urban artist whose practice encompasses painting and large-scale public murals. Originally from Ranchi, his early education fostered a deep passion for art as a vital form of self-expression. He solidified his technical skills and conceptual approach through a formal education in Fine Arts at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda). Upon graduating, Avinash’s foray into street art began in 2015 with a large-scale mural located in New Delhi that became a pivotal moment for his practice.

His work is driven by research into the possibilities of anamorphic painting, specifically focusing on the interaction of light, materiality, and perception. Working primarily with airbrush and acrylics, Avinash investigates how manipulating light and rendering material effects can alter the understanding of objects and spaces. Still life is a core source of inspiration, from which he draws traditions while expanding boundaries, reimagining ordinary objects and textures to challenge viewer expectations. His visual storytelling uses distortion, scale, and space to establish a dynamic dialogue between the object, surface, and the viewer, transforming passive observation into an active experience of discovery.

Avinash has garnered recognition from various art organizations, media outlets, and the public. He has been featured in numerous street art festivals across India frequently with St+art India Foundation, including in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Shillong. Internationally, his work was showcased at the prestigious "UPFEST" in Bristol, UK, in 2018, and at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, NY, USA, in 2024.
